Kleio (pronounced 'Klay-ō') was the Ancient Greek muse of history. She is often depicted next to a stack of books, busily writing away, making her the ideal namesake and source of inspiration for the company.

Kleio project managed the catalogue for Made in Ancient Egypt, working with the Fitzwilliam Museum's exhibitions team, publisher Paul Holberton, in-house curators and external authors. The catalogue reveals the untold stories of Egyptian makers and is the first book to explore ancient Egypt through the lives of its craftspeople.
Kleio project managed Rise Up, which was published to accompany an exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum on the fight to end the transatlantic slave trade. It focuses on previously overlooked Black writers and campaigners, as well as their abolitionist allies in Cambridge.
Kleio commissioned and project managed the catalogue to an exhibition on Glenn Ligon at the Fitzwilliam Museum. The artist’s paintings, sculptures and prints were displayed alongside works from the museum’s collection, setting up a series of thought-provoking interactions with the past. Glenn was very hands-on with the production of the catalogue. Working with an artist always enriches the final result – from discussions about colour and the choice of typeface and paper, to the placement of images on the page.
Olympic fever hit Cambridge in July 2024, with the opening of an exhibition on the Paris Olympics of 1924 – a trailblazing games, which changed attitudes to sport, the body and celebrity. Cambridge students, including runner Harold Abrahams of Chariots of Fire fame, won a remarkable 11 medals. Kleio was delighted to be involved in commissioning the catalogue, working with the curators and contributors and publisher Paul Holberton.
Kleio was thrilled to edit the catalogue for the Marina Abramović exhibition at the Royal Academy. It was the first time a woman artist had ever had a solo show at the RA, so it felt like quite a historic moment – if long overdue! The challenge of how to convey Abramović’s groundbreaking performances in a book was cleverly overcome with the magic of digital technology: a QR code takes readers to an augmented-reality app with films of Abramović’s original performances.
Kleio project managed the exhibition catalogue for After Impressionism at the National Gallery, working with the gallery's in-house publishing team, a team of curators and writers and designer Peter Dawson. The catalogue focuses on a period of great change in art from the end of the nineteenth century, when artists such as Cezanne, Gauguin and Van Gogh began to question the whole idea of realistic representation. The catalogue was one of the National Gallery's bestselling books.
Kleio commissioned the catalogue for the Blake exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum, working with the curators, the museum's exhibitions team, the Hamburger Kunsthalle and publisher Bloomsbury. The catalogue situates Blake in the context of wider trends in Europe, including Romanticism, mysticism and spiritual renewal, countering the narrative of the artist as an eccentric genius.
Black Atlantic was published to accompany an exhibition on the Fitzwilliam Museum's links to the transatlantic slave trade. It was a very sobering and important catalogue to have project managed with the team at the Fitzwilliam Museum and Bloomsbury. I was delighted that it was selected by the Art Newspaper as one of the top art books of 2023! It was also longlisted for the 2024 Berger Prize.
Kleio commissioned and project managed Real Families: Stories of Change, working with the Fitzwilliam Museum's exhibitions team and publisher Paul Holberton. The book considers the idea of what makes a 'real' family, with essays by writers and cultural commentators, including Mary Beard and Katy Hessel, exploring different perspectives on family life.

Kleio was thrilled to work with artist Bill Jacklin, author Nancy Campbell and the team at the Royal Academy, editing this beautiful book on the artist's monotypes. Jacklin's art focuses on the fleeting effects of light and movement – themes that are particularly well suited to the medium of the monotype.
Yarmouth Castle was built by Henry VIII in 1547 to defend the Isle of Wight and protect England from invasion. Though the castle never saw any direct action, it was garrisoned and maintained as a fortress until the early 20th century.
Kleio commissioned, edited and project managed this new guidebook, which draws on brand new research and includes specially commissioned reconstruction drawings of the castle in Tudor times.
There’s nothing that thrills an art book editor more than commissioning and project managing a book about illustrated books! The Art of the Illustrated Book was an absolute joy to work on with the team at the V&A’s National Art Library. There are some real classics in here, from Owen Jones’s Grammar of Ornament and James Audubon’s Birds of America to E.H. Gombrich’s The Story of Art.
Delivered the launch list for M+, a new museum in Hong Kong, producing four substantial books in both English and Chinese in time for the opening of the museum in November 2021, including a book on the making of M+, a highlights guide, a book on the Sigg Collection of modern Chinese art and a guide to art in Hong Kong.

The exhibition showcases costumes from some iconic films, including Room with a View, Pirates of the Caribbean and Downton Abbey.
Unearthed, an exhibition at the British Library, explored the transformative, enriching and sometimes radical power of gardening in Britain. Kleio copy-edited and proofread the texts and labels for the exhibition, working with the library's interpretation manager.
